Professional Development (PD) for the Ten Core Chemistry Labs (10-CCL) began this August for year round schools, and in October and November for traditional and an additional PD 4x4 schools in January.

Remaining PDs will be in November 7 & 8, 2008 and January 16 & 17, 2009.  Please register through the Learning Zone.

The 10-CCL includes: 1) How Sweet It is!; 2) Exploring the Periodic Table of Elements;
3) Light, Color, Chemistry and Sunsets; 4) Hydrogen Bonds; 5) Separating Mixtures;
6) Charles’ Law; 7) Equilibrium, Reversible Reactions, and Buffers; 8) Acid-Base Neutralization: The Community Pool Problem; 9) Biofuels: Food as Fuel; and
10) Determining the Half-Life of a Radioactive Element.

All labs in the 10-CCL are standards-aligned, project-based and follow the recommended sequencing of the Chemistry Content Standard Groups in the LAUSD High School Instructional Guide for Chemistry. Selected LAUSD science teachers, Central and Local District Science staff, and Lab-Aids@ collaboratively developed the labs.

For your convenience, the 10-CCL consumable materials are available through Granada Hills Science Material Center at http://science-lausd.net.
